PIPELAYERS following the directions of others or written instructions lay out pipe routes. This includes cutting pipes to the required size and positioning pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing. Pipelayers then connect pipe pieces and joints using welding equipment, cement or glue.

WELDERS use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. They monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT STAFF provide assistance to a variety of energy company employees with tasks such as preparing memos and documents, proofreading, using databases, and making contact with other staff members or customers. Administrative Support Staff may also plan meetings and events by ordering food, preparing the agenda and materials, setting up the room, and sending out invitations. Education Required: High school diploma or GED.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVES confer with customers by telephone or in person to provide information about products and services, to take orders or cancel accounts, or to obtain details of complaints. They also keep records of customer interactions and transactions, recording details of inquiries, complaints, and comments, as well as actions taken. Education Required: High school diploma or GED.

LOCATOR responsible for locating gas lines to ensure there is no harm to the public or property. Individuals performing this task will work with the locator equipment and must be able to read and interpret maps if the gas line is difficult to locate.

SERVICE DISPATCHER responsible for dispatching calls to technicians via telephone, two-way radio, or in person. This position requires a high level of detail and recordkeeping skills. This individual must have strong communication skills. Education required: High School diploma or GED.  Some prior experience may be required.
